Suite beds, chic restaurants and jacuzzi's: the Celebrity Edge, the latest shipyard of the Atlantic shipyard, built at the forefront of luxury for the American owner Royal Caribbean Cruise Ltd. (RCCL), left the port of Saint-Nazaire on Sunday to gather the United States, an AFP journalist said.

"You have to be very proud that it was built here," Celebrity Cruises exclaimed President Lisa Lutoff-Perlo, about the 306 meter-by-39 meter wide giant that can accommodate 2,900 passengers and 1,320 crew members.

The Celebrity Edge left its port around 15.00 hours for a hundred curious people.

Less than the record cruise ship, the Symphony of the Seas (363 m long and 66 m wide) delivered to RCCL in March, the Celebrity Edge is distinguished by its luxury.

"Twelve percent of the cabins are suites," said Lutoff-Perlo, with the most luxurious of them: the huge "Iconic Suites" "with stunning views in front of the boat or duplex" Edge Villa "" They have their own jacuzzi overlooking the sea.

After a nine-day Atlantic crossing to Fort Lauderdale, Florida, the first passengers will be able to enjoy these benefits during the first cruises in the Caribbean at the beginning of December. In the spring of 2019 the ship returns to Europe for a stay on the Mediterranean with stops in Rome and Barcelona.

"France is a country of engineers, it is well-known in the world, this ability to quickly create new technologies," remarked the director of Chantiers de l'Atlantique, Laurent Castaing, convinced that the ability to innovation has secured the contract four years ago.

The novelty of the flagship is the "Magic Carpet", a platform that can be moved to the side of the ship to increase the space around the pool or serve a meal above the water, depending on the chosen level. Also unpublished, large windows in the cabin that can be opened halfway.

The price of such a ship is estimated "between 700 and 800 million euros", said Castaing, which is scheduled to deliver Celebrity Cruises in March 2020 a new cruise ship, Celebrity Apex.

"Saint-Nazaire is probably the place in the world where we currently build the most cruise ships," he added.

On December 4, the Celebrity Edge is nominated by Nobel laureate Malala Yousafzai, said Ms. Lutoff-Perlo, who explained that gender equality was a priority for her group.
