For the first time the Front View Monitor appeared on the Legacy, where the space in front of the car's nose was displayed with a 180 degree coverage angle. And for the first time on this model – an LTE communication module with Wi-Fi distribution. Among others: navigation with voice control, split screen mode with simultaneous output of different information (navigation and radio stations, for example), LED headlights that respond to steering movements.
With a supercharged boxer the sedan accelerates from 0 to 60 mph (97 km / h) in 6.1 seconds, and in atmospheric – 8.4 seconds. Not only modernized units and general aerodynamics are responsible for fuel consumption, but also "local" (eg active blinds in the grille). And handling and comfort should be enhanced by the new McPherson front strut with aluminum L-shaped handles and integrated spring buffers, as well as the rear double lever on the sub-frame with the new hollow stabilizer bar.
American dealers will have a car this fall. In the Russian office of the company Drive they told us that the previous Legacy sedan will still be sold, and most likely there will be no new ones at all. The debut "American" can only be of interest to us in terms of the prediction for the next Outback (interior, technology). But it is still far away.

For the first time, the world heard about the Legacy model in 1987, when a concept with this name was shown at a motor show in Chicago. Two years later a stock car appeared on the market, replacing the Leone model. Legacy is the first Subaru car to receive a two-liter engine. The flagship was produced with sedan and wagons.
The Legacy family was equipped with atmospheric and supercharged boxer fours with a capacity of 102-280 hp. The first generation Legacy was listed in the World Rally Championship and with the light hand of Colin McRae became the subject of admiration for fans and fans of tuning.
The second generation debuted in 1993. It was the old car, but in a more pleasant shape. Design was done by Olivier Boulet, who is better known for the novice Mitsubishi. The length of the Legacy wheelbase has been increased by 50 mm – up to 2630. The total dimensions have also grown slightly. In addition, for the main market – the United States – it has been decided to equip all cars with a four-wheel drive.
In 2001 saw the light of the special version of the car – Blitzen. It was developed together with Porsche engineers, who not only invented the design of the wheels and the aerodynamic bodykit, but also shared the sequential method of the "automatic" with the Japanese. Well, the most crazy modification was the STI (S400 and S401) with a two-liter 289 hp (343 N • m) turbo engine and a six-speed "mechanism", which is difficult to access for regular versions. A total of 800 such cars were produced. Another fascinating interpretation of the Legacy was the Baja pick-up based on the Outback model for the American market, but after four years of production (2003-2006), due to weak sales (just over 30 thousand cars). ; s), the car was removed from the assembly line.
The fourth generation, which appeared in 2003, is in fact a modified third generation car with a wheelbase of 20 mm (maximum 2670), a more comfortable suspension, adapted with four-wheel drive and improved aerodynamics.
By the end of a fourth generation career, in the spring of 2008, a version with a 150 hp turbo diesel engine was released to increase European sales. (350 N • m). In the same year, the hottest STI versions appeared on the Japanese market – the S402 with Bilstein suspension, Brembo brakes and a 285-hp (392 N • m) 2.5-liter blower from the Impreza WRX STI. Edition – 402 copies. Well, the total "cattle" Legacy cars for the whole existence of the model – more than 3.6 million units.
The official debut of the fifth generation of the model Subaru Legacy celebrated at the auto show in New York in 2009. At the same time the fourth generation of the Outback car was shown. The bases of both cars create a new platform, and they have added a bit in size themselves. Externally, the car is also significantly noticeably transformed in comparison with its predecessors, their appearance became more lively. The Japanese decided first to leave their original frameless doors. The reason for this was the low results of crash tests for lateral collision and acoustic discomfort. The sedan is still equipped with a symmetrical all-wheel drive Symmetrical AWD. A new six-speed gearbox and Variator Lineartronic CVT has been added in the transmission range.
The sixth generation was published in 2014. The car as a whole repeated its predecessor technique, but many parts of suspension, subframes, steering and brakes underwent revisions. Marked symmetrical four-wheel drive system has been preserved, but also thrust vectoring (Active Torque Vectoring) by braking the wheels. The opposite suction 2.5 and 3.6 (at 175 and 260 forces) were known from the previous model.
In 2017 a restyling was carried out (such as a car on the photo above), where the bumpers and the center console changed the most. It introduced the latest version of Starlink multimedia system with support for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto in all trim levels, and the display has grown from 6.2 inches to 6.5 and 8.0. In addition, automatic reverse braking appeared and again steering, brakes and suspension were reconfigured.
