Insatiable: the Netflix series manages to seduce despite the controversy? Our first impressions

Here, the Insatiable series is finally available on Netflix! The speech is simple: this is the story of Patty Bladell, an overweight, abused, harassed and criticized teenager who, after an altercation with a homeless person, gets a jaw punch. As a result, after 3 months without being able to speak, she lost a lot of pounds, transformed herself with a new figure and is ready as always to take revenge on all those who have made her suffer from childhood. If the summary does not look so bad, for weeks, the controversy swells around the Netflix series that would encourage fat-shaming, or the "Grossophobie". But is it really like that? After seeing the first episodes of InsatiableThe time has come to reveal our impressions.

Debby Ryan is perfect in her role

First of all, you have to look insatiable in the second degree (or even the third, in some moments)! This is important, otherwise you will not have fun. If from the first few minutes we feel a bit crazy and strange, with a mother who seems to love her daughter more, girls who turn into real parasites, a change of appearance for the heroin in a moment of a finger or a humor, sometimes a lock comes on the scatophile, something jumps us fast enough: the narration is composed of three different characters, which give three different points of view, and another vision of the story: Patty (Debby Ryan), the heroine, Bob Armstrong (Dallas Roberts), a lawyer who will radically change his life, and his wife Coralee (Alyssa Milano, who is doing pretty well in this role), a kind of a desperate housewife. We enter directly into the theme of "fat-shaming" when we see all the insults and insult that Patty suffered in his youth, but another theme comes later: sexual harassment. The lawyer Bob is accused of having sexual contact with minors, while the story turns out to be false. The angle is interesting, especially because it is treated, for once, in a comic way, because the series is totally ironic.

Revenge is a dish that is eaten (very) cold

Regarding the story, even if the subject is normally very serious, everything is always derided. Between Patty who falls in love with her lawyer, too old for her, her best friend who clearly has a crush on her when Patty does not notice anything, or high school students who do not recognize her, the plot seems light. What can get bored fast enough, despite the 12 episodes. Fortunately, add spice to the series Netflixwe can count on the unlikely and disproportionate methods that the heroine wants to use to take revenge on those who have made her suffer … And strangely, it seems that sometimes there is a small dose of dynasty, from Devious Maids oruncomfortable. We still have to emphasize the fact that in the first episodes There always comes a time when there is real dialogue, fat-shaming, discrimination or harassment. A message that looks good, but a message a bit too short for our tastes. So yes, if we focus on the little beast, on history in general, we can understand the controversy around it of Insatiable. But it is a real black comedy, where everything has to be taken in the second degree. This is definitely not the best series of the year, but if you have the hindsight, and if you want to spend a quiet time without taking the initiative during this summer, try the experience!
