A man who was attacked by a mountain lion while running on a park trail in northern Colorado fought back and killed the animal by suffocating it.
The trail runner, which was not mentioned, sustained serious injuries after being bitten on his face and wrist by the young male lion, according to Colorado Parks and Wildlife officials.
He turned around after he had heard a sound behind him, just as the lion jumped out and he was able to break free and killed the lion in self-defense, officials say.
The cat died of asphyxiation, state officials have determined.

Keep in mind that: @LCDNR has closed the Horsetooth Mountain & Soderberg trailheads at Horsetooth Mountain Open Space from an overabundance of caution. Extra mountain lions were seen near the scene of yesterday's attack, causing an additional closure. More: https://t.co/0cYH1kONzQ
