Daniels also says that working as a freelance stripper when she was a student allowed her to set up her own program, collecting hours and days that followed her lessons, and that flexibility is one of the main recalls of her profession.

Being an independent contractor also gives an exotic dancer the freedom to set limits that help her feel safe.

Many readers on Twitter said they were impressed by the piece and agreed very much with what Daniels said.
You are right. And I'm not just applying this to the strippers. Anyone with unique talent, skills or experience should be allowed to choose between direct employment and the status of an independent contractor.

I agree with this statement. Just because you're in the adult sex industry does not mean you should be exploited and prostitutes are often exploited in more than one way.

I am a freelance journalist who lost a long-standing concert due to the Dynamex ruling. The state legislator needs to correct this exaggeration by the California Supreme Court. We need a law that recognizes those of us who depend on advantageous freelance working relationships.

An interesting dilemma, here: employers abuse the status of "independent contractor" to avoid any kind of conduct that would be illegal against employees, but Daniels also raises some positive points.
Perhaps a law / rule in which the default is dependent, but can the employee deactivate it?
– Chad in a 🎩 (@RevDJEsq) 5 February 2019
His reasons are well argued.
There are probably people from the other side who want employee benefits instead.
That the health insurance and the banks that are willing to lend to you are related to employment could be the real problem.

Others recognized the strength of Daniels' argument, but offered counterpoints.
Stormy has some excellent points, but I am a little worried about the fact that she is employed as a spokesperson for a company that owns a group of these clubs. Is this really how most of the dancers feel, or are they simply speaking on behalf of the club owners?
– Iain Kerr (@sarion_gamer) 5 February 2019
Stormy offers some interesting points, but employers have the ability to allow flexible scheduling at will. They also have a legal obligation to keep all employee information confidential. The employee can have autonomy and still be protected as an employee.

But some felt his intervention was completely out of place.
And a lot of people were simply taken aback by the fact that Daniels – whose editorial worked one day after a California judge fired his libel complaint against Michael Cohen and President Trump – is a writer of opinions in grass.
Lorena Gonzalez, the Californian deputy who presented the Dynamex law, also entered the discussion.
