PETOSKEY, Mich. (WPBN/WGTU) — McLaren Northern Michigan is teaming up with the Prevent Cancer Foundation, trying to get more people screened for lung cancer.
McLaren was on of 12 programs nationally to receive a $25,000 grant from the foundation.
That will go towards making lung cancer screening more affordable to high risk patients.
That includes eliminating the $75 out-of-pocket cost for the screening.
“Lung cancer is, by the time you catch it, if there’s not symptoms, it can often be too late,” said Lisa McGovern from the Prevent Cancer Foundation. “So, getting to people early is essential, and that’s why the work that’s being done here at McLaren is being done so well. To try to reach people at a time when their outcomes will be most favorable.”
November is National Lung Cancer Awareness Month.
McLaren has a checklist on its website to see if you should be screened for lung cancer.
