After losing weight, Cynthia Calvillo uses chefs with UFC

PHOENIX – UFC straw gauge Cynthia Calvillo claims to have done everything in her power to avoid losing weight over the previous octagon period.

But her body would not cooperate, and she came up two pounds less for a Fight Night 140 UFC fight against Poliana Botelho.

"We tried to get ready for the best we could, but that time of the month was not great for me," Calvillo (7-1 MMA, 4-1 UFC) told MMAjunkie ahead of a return against Cortney Casey (8 -6 MMA, 4-5 UFC) at UFC on ESPN 1, which takes place on Sunday at the Talking Stick Arena in Phoenix and broadcast live on ESPN.

Calvillo won, but the lady cost her 20 percent of her bag. Then she joined up with the UFC Performance Institute, which recently installed chefs in the week of the fight.

"They prepared all our meals, and this is the most energy I've ever had," he said. "I feel great, and it's the least amount of weight I've ever had to cut for a weight cut." It's nice to have that learning experience and get on and do it the right way.

"I'm really happy that the accident happened because I learned a lot about nutrition, and I feel a lot better this week than I have done in other weeks."

Calvillo not only changed his lifestyle, but begged the promotion to give her another fight as quickly as possible. It was then that the tough veteran Casey materialized.

Calvillo said that Casey's record does not reflect his skills and he noted that this is the first time that "Cast Iron" has had a complete field. He expects to make a big jump if he is able to put his opponent aside.
