A 54-year-old man, recently released after serving 30 years in prison, was indicted Monday for attempted murder of a prostitute in Mulhouse, it was learned from the prosecutor.

"This man had indeed executed a very long sentence at the Ensisheim plant (Haut-Rhin). He will be placed in pre-trial detention, "said Mulhouse public prosecutor Edwige Roux-Morizot. Released in November, the man had just served the 30-year sentence "in a case of murder and rape," according to a source close to the investigation.

The victim of 23 years "in shock"

The man is this time suspected of attacking with a knife a prostitute in the night from Friday to Saturday in Mulhouse, according to this same source. The victim, a 23-year-old Romanian, was found shortly after the "shock" and hand-wounding incidents by a crime squad crew.

The attacker was hospitalized after being found seriously injured near his vehicle, on which he is suspected of having attacked the prostitute. According to the first elements of the investigation, the victim managed to seize the assailant's weapon and strike him at the level of the clavicle, before calling for help.
