The 2017 Asian Cup in the UAE, the biggest in the history of the 24-team tournament, is a new precedent by taking over the fourth switch.
The board of the AFC has endorsed the recommendation to make the latest changes to the rules adopted by the International Football Association (IFAP) in national team competitions.
"The whole Asian continent is eager to start the main national team games," said AFC President Shaikh Salman bin Ibrahim.
"I am confident that the new rules will increase the excitement of the main national team championships on the Asian continent and will reinforce the Continental Union's ambitions to be a pioneer among the continental trade unions in the world."
The new rules will also be applied to the AFC U-19 Championship that starts next week in Indonesia (October 19 – November 4).
The new amendment to the rules states that "the rules of the tournament may contain additional substitutions during matches in which additional steps are taken
