A good old-fashioned smash and grab – Juventus will probably scratch their heads until next week wondering how they did not win this one.
But Manchester United and Jose Mourinho will not care one iota. It was another step in the right direction and another claim to claim all three points.
Lord, Sportsmail's CHRIS WHEELER runs the rule on the Allianz Stadium.
Jose Mourinho silenced his doubters as Manchester United came from behind to beat Juventus
WOJCIECH SZCZESNY 5.5 – The former Arsenal goalkeeper should have more kick that led to United's dramatic late winner.
MATTIA DE SCIGLIO 6.5 – Struggled with Martial on the right side in the second half after getting forward well before half-time.
LEONARDO BONUCCI 7 – Provided the threw on Fellaini. Unshakeable until United threw on Fellaini
Wojciech Szczesny should have more kicked the tie
GIORGIO CHIELLINI 6.5 – The other half of Juve's center-back partnership also looked solid again until United's dramatic late comeback
ALEX SANDRO 6.5 – Unlucky to score late own goal. Highlight of his performance until then was a cheeky nutmeg on Lingard in the first half.
RODRIGO BENTANCUR 6.5 – Unlucky to see an early shot deflected wide. Another strong midfield display from the impressive Uruguayan.
MIRALEM PJANIC 5.5 – We've come to expect more from the Bosnia star. Did not produce enough of his magic to open up United.
Sami Khedira got ahead on several occasions but wasted Juve's best chance of the first half
SAMI KHEDIRA 6 – Unexpected goal threat. Wasted best chance of the first half when he hit the post after having Juve's first effort on target as well.
JUAN CUADRADO 6.5 – Plenty or enterprise from the former Chelsea man but should have scored from close range in second half.
PAULO DYBALA 6.5 – The only goal in Manchester went very close again with an excellent shot against the bar.
CRISTIANO RONALDO 8 – Tormented his old club again with some lovely touches to create chances for his team-mates and then volleyed in a beauty.
Cristiano Ronaldo tormented his old club and produced a stunning finish for the opener
Subs: Benatia, Matuidi (for Khedira 61), Barzagli (for De Sciglio 83), Mandzukic (Cuadrado 82), Cancelo, Perin, Rugani
Manager: Massimiliano Allegri 6 – His team had produced 13 wins in 14 games before this but for once he was paid off with his match as Mourinho's plan.
MANCHESTER UNITED (4-3-3)
DAVID DE GEA 7 – Smart one-handed save to keep a deflected Cuadrado cross but had no chance with the goal.
ASHLEY YOUNG 6.5 – Typically combative display from the United skipper. Had his hands full with Ronaldo though.
CHRIS SMALLING 7 – Solid at the heart of the back-of-four United States of America champions for long periods.
Chris Smalling was solid at the heart of United's defense as she picked up a huge result
VICTOR LINDELOF 6.5 – Lived a little dangerously at times and was caught out when Ronaldo got the wrong side to score
LUKE SHAW 7 – Good duel with Cuadrado but struggled when Ronaldo switched flanks on occasions.
ANDER HERRERA 7 – Deployed to break up Juve's attacking and fulfilling role as usual
NEMANJA MATIC 6.5 – After a 12th-minute booking for foul on Dybala, but performed well.
Ander Herrera was deployed to break up Juve's attacking and fulfilling role
PAUL POGBA 5.5 – Largely anonymous return to his old club but the free kick that led to Mata's equalizer
JESSE LINGARD 6 – Worked hard on his first start since September but difficult against such organized opponents.
ALEXIS SANCHEZ 6.5 – Plenty of effort and lively in the box, but a couple of free kick opportunities.
ANTHONY MARTIAL 6.5 – In-form winger raised his game in the second half and went close on a couple of occasions
Alexis Sanchez had a decent game and there was plenty of effort and endeavor from him
Subs: Bailly, Mata (for Herrera, 7), Rashford (for Lingard 70, 6), Fred, Romero, Fellaini (for Sanchez 79, 6), Darmian
Manager: Jose Mourinho 7.5 – The plan to contain Juve worked better than at Old Trafford a fortnight ago, and he was rewarded with a stunning late win.
Referee: Ovidiu Hategan 7 (Romania) – Kept firm control of the game from a team.
