Man United has never attracted Diego Godin away from Atletico Madrid

On Thursday, when Manchester United had made an offer to try and persuade Diego Godin to join them this summer, it was no surprise. The Uruguayan is, after all, the best central defender in the world – as shown by his performances at the World Cup this summer – and with a release clause of only € 20 million, it was an opportunistic approach that, if successful, it would have been one of the twists in the window. But let's face it, it would never have happened, right? Why would Atletico Madrid ever make an offer for his stellar defender, especially in this final phase of the window? The 32-year-old has been targeted by rival citizens of United, Man City, Juventus and even Barcelona – if the rumors are to be believed – and turned them all down, so United fans should not be surprised that their approach has been dealt with little attention this time. The fact that the news is leaking even the English side that tries to show their fans that they were for the best players and that there was little else they could do. They had a loser with this unconventional, and they could also save some money on telephone bills by not even making the phone call. Signed for an 8 million euro deal in 2010, the all-half action center won two European championships, the La Liga and the Copa del Rey while he was in the Spanish capital, not to mention his place in the club legend with some heroics screens and his famous goal at the Camp Nou that ensured the Atletico in 2014. At the minute, Godin is irreplaceable, something demonstrated by the fact that when Gabi left last month he was immediately appointed captain. Only prizes for a faithful servant of Diego Simeone is putting it lightly. The Uruguayan was, and still remains, fundamental to Los Rojiblancos. The US offer for Diego Godin was flattering, but Godin would never seriously leave Madrid. C & # 39 It is a reason that despite the numerous coming and going during his eight years at the club, Godin has remained a constant presence: he is a world-class defender. Add to the mix that is in a club that loves, in a city where he is happy, playing alongside international teammate Jose Maria Gimenez in one of Europe's best new stadiums and ahead of the best goalkeeper in the world, Jan Oblak. If you were Godin, why would you change? Granted, he is every inch a player of Jose Mourinho and undoubtedly has the tools to succeed in the Premier League. Yet, while United's offer was hallucinatory in financial terms, the reality is that in addition to a personal sense, Godin's professional situation at Atletico is more palatable than a move to Manchester. The whole world has seen the Portuguese coach throw players under a bus and complains about this preseason. His miserable and miserable behavior is not exactly a great strength and seeing the Red Devils finish the last season without trophies, about 19 points behind the champions of Man City, while Atleti has won the glory in the Europa League and finished over the Real Madrid, probably Godin's mind long before the offer came. Contrast Mourinho's laments with the way things went to Atleti. They probably "won" the transfer market holding Antoine Griezmann and Oblak, as well as recruiting the likes of Thomas Lemar, Gelson Martins, Santiago Arias and Rodri. It is a team full of talent. Athletes have high ambitions and are well placed to challenge both at national level and in Europe. To put it simply, a club in their position could not even entertain an offer for their man. They have run a quiet and calm recruitment record that seems to be gathering dividends this season and for years to come. In other words, the exact opposite of the Man United window.
