(Reuters) – Portuguese midfielder Jose Mourinho has cost Manchester United 19.6 million pounds, the English Premier League football team said on Thursday, although it still expects to achieve its financial goals for the year .

Mourinho started in December following a series of dismal results and the club has appointed former striker Ole Gunnar Solskjaer as goalkeeper manager for the rest of the season.

United, whose side joined the French Paul Pogba and the Spanish goalkeeper David de Gea, tore the worst start of the season 28 years after the appointment of Solskjaer and currently ranked fourth in the Premier League.

"The appointment of Ole and Mike (Phelan) as manager and assistant manager … has had a positive impact throughout the club," executive vice president Ed Woodward said in a statement.

Turnover for the three months ended December 31 was £ 208.6 million, compared to £ 177.4 million in the prior year, as a new agreement on the rights to the lucrative Champions League helped raise 38% turnover.

The 20-fold British champions said they would continue to forecast revenue of £ 615-630 million and adjusted earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization (EBITDA) of £ 175-190 million for 2018-19 .
