Paris Saint-Germain vs. Bordeaux - Football Match Report - 9 February 2019

The Paris Saint Germain is back to win in Ligue 1 on Saturday with a 1-0 defeat by Bordeaux, but the French champions have lost the striker Edinson Cavani through injury before their Champions League trip to Manchester United.

Cavani opened the scoring with a penalty of 42 minutes before holding his thigh and leaving the field, three days before the PSG conquered United in the second round.

The PSG coach Thomas Tuchel is already without the Brazil striker Neymar, who was excluded from both legs with a foot injury. The result led PSG leaders to 59 points in 22 games, 13 ahead of Lille in second place, who played an extra game.

It was good news for PSG as midfielder Marco Verratti returned to the field after recovering from an ankle injury. The Italian national team played almost an hour before being replaced by Leandro Paredes.

Verratti should now start Tuesday against a resurgent United who won the 10th victory in 11 games under the leadership of coach Ole Gunnar Solskjaer when he beat Fulham for 3-0 on Saturday.

The PSG, which suffered its first league loss this season against Lyon last weekend, had control of Bordeaux mid-table.

Cavani has unlocked the stalemate with a penalty for his 17th goal in 16 league games this season Thomas Meunier had been killed in the area. Later, Meunier was replaced following a head-to-head match with a Bordeaux player.

A couple of minutes later Cavani limps off the field holding his thigh, pushing Tuchel to replace him with Kylian Mbappe, who should have rested before the fight on Tuesday.

The French national is now able to start as a lone striker at Old Trafford, supported by Julian Draxler and Angel Di Maria. The second half was relatively poor, with PSG players, wearing T-shirts with their names written in Mandarin to celebrate the Chinese New Year, without running risks and a side of Bordeaux without creativity.

The only chance for the public after the interval came to 61 when Gianluigi Buffon pulled a splendid parade to free the 25-meter strike by Francois Kamano.

Bordeaux is 12th out of 28 points.
