Toby Alderweireld breaks the silence after the failed transfer of Manchester United

Toby Alderweireld hopes to win the championship with Tottenham this season, after a move in Manchester United did not materialize during the summer window of the transfer. The central defender was on a list of goals wanted by Jose Mourinho during the summer, but failure to agree on a quota means that he is in Spurs, at least for now. The Spurs started their new campaign with a win against Newcastle, but Alderweireld had to settle for a seat on the bench at St James' Park. After the win, the 29 year old turned to social media and tweeted: "First game, first win! Let's go and win the title in our new stadium". Mauricio Pochettino chose Jan Vertonghen and Davinson Sanchez for their opening game of the season and Alderweireld tweeted his support to his teammates after scoring the first Spurs goal. And it was understood that Tottenham president Daniel Levy contacted United on the possibility of signing Anthony Martial and Juan Mata this summer and United attempted to negotiate a compromise with Alderweireld through intermediaries, but failed before the deadline.
