Jose Mourinho traveled throughout Europe to view a historic first meeting between Serbia and Montenegro on Thursday evening, allegedly to look at Nikola Milenkovic from behind.
The manager of Manchester United has long sought to add his defense and because he did not get the money to sign Toby Alderweireld, Jerome Boateng or Harry Maguire in the summer, Mourinho is still busy with an important signing. Dire performance and results this season have only reinforced his desire to buy someone better than Phil Jones or Victor Lindelof.
Milenkovic is reportedly the last name on his list of targets, and Mourinho was in Podgorica this week to keep the Serb a clean slate for rivals Montenegro.
He is only 21 years old today, but the roots of Milenkovic lead to the question of whether he can become just as successful – if he moves to United – as Nemanja Vidic.
That may seem far away, since he only moved to Fiorentina last year and played only 24 times in Serie A, but his recent increase suggests that nothing should be discounted.
