Blood Remastered Edition from Nightdive Studios - Game Revolution

Atari has announced a remake of the classic PC first-person shooter Blood Is in the making. Nightdive Studios, the team behind the recent innovations of the first two Turok: Dinosaur Hunter games and the reissues of both System shocks 1 and 2, is processing the new one Blood Remastered Edition. The new version of the game will contain many improvements to make it more compatible with current generation systems. Although there is no release date yet, Atari promises more information about the Blood remake "in the coming weeks."

Blood is the first game of Middle-Earth: Shadow or Mordor and Shadow of War developer Monolith, and was originally released in 1997. For the third person Lord of the Rings Prequels, the team was best known for making acclaimed titles for the first person, including FEAR., Condemned, no one lives forever and Aliens Vs. Predator 2. Blood is more visually more primitive compared to those games, because it is based on the sprite-based Duke Nukem 3D Construction engine, which is currently used for the upcoming Ion Maiden. Nevertheless, the game is still extremely playable because of the wink to the horror films, entertaining levels and an exciting gameplay. The recently released Dusk is considered a spiritual successor to Blood.

The new remaster will apparently not deviate too much from the original, because Nightdive says it will only update the game to provide "a better user experience for today's audiences." The studio strives for better compatibility with current gene video and audio hardware, including support for DirectX and Vulkan, with additional support for modern networks, Steamworks and GOG Galaxy. The new remaster will be of "One Unit Whole" Blood"Package that contains Blood and its expansion packs.

It is not such a big effort for Nightdive as the System shock remake that the team is currently working on, but Blood is still one of the most entertaining shooters ever made, so fans will welcome a new opportunity to experience it. Hopefully it brings us one step closer Blood 3.
