Apple released three new models of the iPhone yesterday – the iPhone XS, the iPhone XS Max and the iPhone XR – and as with all Apple releases, a number of exciting developments were revealed. From the biggest display ever on an iPhone to an incredible new camera, here are five reasons why you might want to grab the latest iPhone before you step on your next adventure.

The Larger-Than Life display

If you travel often, you know the feeling of finding yourself in an airplane, train or bus looking for a way to kill time. Fortunately, the exceptionally new screen of the iPhone makes sure that you can entertain your entire journey. The iPhone XS screen is the 5.8 "super retina display known to iPhone X users, while the XR is 6.1" and the XS Max has a whopping 6.5 ", the largest ever on an iPhone. this new range of iPhones does not really feel any bigger than you're used to, they just offer a lot more per square inch.

The improved battery life

A phone is only as good as its battery, and the new iPhone is no different. The XS lasts 30 minutes longer than the iPhone X last year, while the XS Max lasts up to 90 minutes longer per charge. These are not groundbreaking improvements when it comes to battery life, but they are still impressive given the power the new screens need to turn.

The water resistance and durability

Sustainability is especially important when you are on the road, so you'll be happy to know that the new iPhones are equipped with what Apple calls "the most durable glass ever in a smartphone". They are also protected against IP68, an industry measure that simply means that they are resilient enough to withstand dust and water for up to 30 minutes to a depth of 2 meters (6.6 feet). Perhaps more relevant is that they are also resistant to spills of coffee, soft drinks, beer and other beverages, making the new iPhone more viable than ever before. Although I do not recommend testing these measurements excessively – liquid damage is not covered by the standard Apple warranty – this means that your new iPhone should be in order the next time you accidentally spill your drink.

The remarkable new camera

The XS and XS Max have the same basic setup for photography: a 12 MP wide camera, a 12 MP telephoto camera and the famous True Tone flash from Apple. The software is equally impressive: smart HDR offers enhanced shadow and highlight details, depth control makes after-shooting depth of field adjustments and improved portrait mode makes selfies even sharper. All three models record video in 4K, the highest video quality of any smartphone in the world. Face detection, face orientation and depth assignment are just some of the many behind-the-scenes operations to make your photos instantly better.

Photos with low light have also been significantly improved on the new iPhone XS, XS Max and XR.Apple

The (almost) Dual-SIM technology

If you often cross the border, dual-SIM technology – which allows you to keep two SIM cards in your phone at the same time – is a must-have. It is a perk that is standard on many other smartphones nowadays, because it is no longer necessary to remove and re-insert a SIM card every time you travel, but you can also have two different phone numbers on the same phone. Apple has resisted dual-SIM technology from day one, but the new iPhone is finally taking a step in the right direction. The latest models now have a removable SIM slot and an eSIM, a virtual SIM card that offers you some, but not all, advantages of a second removable SIM card. If you live in China, Hong Kong or Macau, you are lucky: your iPhone will come with the real dual-SIM technology we all crave.

You can order your iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max in advance from tomorrow 14 Septemberthstarting at $ 999 and $ 1,099 respectively. Pre-orders of the iPhone XR begin on October 19thth and start at $ 749. Apple starts deliveries on all three phones a week after the date of their order.
