Apex Legends launched a few days ago on Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC, allowing anyone, from anywhere in the world, to download the game for free and jump directly to the battlefield.
For PC gamers, this meant that they only needed to download Origin, create an account and download the game. The owners of PS4 and Xbox One, on the other hand, needed to find the title in the online store.
For most online console games, however, you need to be a PS Plus or Xbox Live Gold subscriber to access multiplayer features. This therefore poses the question: you need an online subscription to play Apex Legends online even if it's completely free to play?
In short, no-since Apex Legends is a free-to-play game, you do not need PS Plus or Xbox Live Gold to play online with your friends on PS4 and Xbox One respectively.
Of course you can get free cosmetics if you have a subscription to one of these services, including access to Origen and EA on PC, but it is not necessary to play online.
Most free-to-play games will never ask you to buy an online subscription to play them since it would defeat the purpose of being free-to-play. The same can be said Fortnite: Battle Royale, Warframeand lots of other titles that you could play right now on your systems at no additional cost.
