Armed men dressed as mariachi killed five people and injured eight others at the famous Garibaldi square, one of the most important tourist spots in Mexico City, the police said the night of this Friday.

Plaza Garibaldi is located next to the neighborhood Tepito, where the violent drug trade cartel of La Unión works.

Tepito suffered a wave of violence last month after the alleged leader of the criminal group, Roberto Moyado Esparza – "El Betito" – was arrested.
