Ortega has denied the accusations and has assured that it is an attempted coup.
Demonstrations against Ortega and his wife, Vice President Rosario Murillo, began on 18 April as a result of social security reforms that were eventually canceled, thus preventing the crisis from being deactivated, including the request to resign from the government.
