Rockfall causes tidal wave for the holiday island

Off the coast of Zakynthos a part of a mountain fell into the sea. The resulting tidal wave capsized three tour boats.

A landslide caused a tidal wave on the Greek holiday island of Zakynthos. At least three tour boats have capsized. A 34-year-old woman would have been injured. Moreover, the coastguard was initially looking for three missing tourists, the Greek government reported. However, according to news agency ANA, people are no longer considered missing. Several video's from Twitter, taken from different angles, whose origin is not clearly known at the moment, show how the rock masses tumble down on the beach and in the water of the bay.

The beach of Navagio, which can only be reached by boat, is one of the most popular seaside resorts in Zakynthos. The island lies in the Ionian Sea on the western side of the Peloponnese. It is the 10th largest island in Greece.

The beach is considered one of the most beautiful in the country because of the turquoise water, the light sandy beaches and the towering rock formation that surrounds it. The bay is the destination of numerous organized boat trips.
